- Jesus. John 13:34-35
Finding friends can be difficult today. Modern life is fast-paced, and there is little time to go deep.
At All People Christian Church, they know that life in Reno can feel at times disconnected. The culture of this city is quite individual and broken, making it difficult to make long-lasting friends. What brought you to Reno? Was it retirement? A new job in our emerging tech industry? Did family bring you here?
They understand the challenges with finding a church, and finding friends.
Yet, consistently, time and time again, we have seen that the best way to find and make friends is by regularly spending time with people, centered around the common goal of becoming disciples of Jesus. Jesus promised in Mathew 28, if we go and make disciples, by learning what it means to obey him, he will establish his community (called the church).
If you are looking for friendships, first go to God, and ask how you can become his disciple.
We've found that in today's busy world, a small group Bible study that regularly meets, is one of the best ways to making disciples, and making friends too!
Others may simply be looking for deeper friends, rather than more of them. Is that you?
Yet, we found the same to be true. There is no better way to grow and deepen relationships, than to meet together regularly, learning about God and applying his commands and grace into our life.
And it is meant to be done together. In fellowship, and holding each other accountable. This is the lifestyle he modeled for us in the first century church.
While attending church on Sundays is good and important, you'll find quickly that it is not enough for making deep friendships.
Relational depth is found in doing life together. And that is easiest done in a small group, rather than a large gathering. Whether it is praying for each other, helping serve needs, and doing the small things like taking care of each others kids, or having empathy, small groups is where its at.
If you are already connected with a couple of others at a Sunday gathering, perhaps they are your best connection to being plugged into a small group.
If you are new, and don't know where to start, you can also talk with a church leader and they can help introduce you to a small group leader that may match your schedule or stage of life. All People Christian Church has groups for all ages and stages, and they also have specialty groups like mens groups, womens groups, student groups, and more.
Whatever your place in life is, you have to start somewhere. There is no perfect time. Start today, by asking where to get plugged in or visiting All People's small groups page to learn more and contact the leader.
